A WOMAN who was found with £1,200 worth of speed in Dalmellington has been released on bail.

Lorna Baird, of Ness Glen Road, owned up to being concerned in the supply of the class B drug at Merrick Drive as well as her home address on September, 18.

The 45-year-old appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how police officers received an anonymous phone call that Baird was travelling in a car towards Dalmellington and had a quantity of controlled drugs in her possession.

Depute Fiscal, Jacob Tomnay, said: “At 5.30pm police officers traced the vehicle and activated their lights. The car which Baird was in, stopped.

“Baird was a passenger and said she had something in her bag. Officers found 123g of amphetamine worth £1,200.

“A warrant was granted to search her house. A number of bags, glucose powder and scales were found. Baird said the drugs were for personal use.”

Speaking on her behalf, defence solicitor, Ms Mortimer, said: “Ms Baird is fully aware that she has placed her liberty in jeopardy.”

Sheriff Montgomery said: “She certainly has.”

Ms Mortimer continued: “She is already on a community payback order and she is doing well. She is now being open and honest with her supervising officer.

“She accepts she has had an addiction for some time. That is not something she has been willing to admit in the past and has refrained from using substances since the incident.

“Ms Baird has self referred to Adaction. At least she is making progress.”
Addressing the dock, Sheriff Montgomery, said: “You are concerned in the supply of drugs which is a very serious offence.”

Sentence has been deferred to allow the court to obtain appropriate reports.
