AGE Concern Girvan, which caters for elderly residents in the town, treated Girvan Rotary members to a three course lunch.

The team of volunteers provide a three course lunch to elderly residents at a low cost balanced diet to all elderly residents in Girvan and aim to keep elderly people informed of current issues relating to health, benefits and safety.

The centre is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and all are welcome from 11am, with the meal served at noon.

A main course costs £2.50 with a three course meal available. Helping with the meal and on job experience was Kerr McDowell.

Alistair Wallace, of Girvan Rotary, said: “Kerr looked the part, acted the part and it was wonderful to see how easily he handled an environment that had no mobile phones, he even saw people cooking without one in their hand.”

The Rotary Club of Girvan visited Age Concern, which operates from Duff Street, last week.

Six Rotarians John Andrew (President) Andrew Ballantine (Secretary ) Alistair Wallace, Jim Henderson, Jim Anderson and Denis Parkinson has lunch.

Alistair continued: “We all sat down to a beautifully prepared table and had a feast.

“Lentil Soup followed by Beef Stew or Fish Pie followed by Banana cake with Custard or ice cream fruit and jelly. The spread and it was all made by Margaret Davidson, the head chef and her super team. Margaret makes smashing meals that she serves up three times a week to all those who drop in.

“The chairperson of the whole operation is Mrs Trisha Watts and her team made us most welcome and Jim Henderson the Rotary Club ‘taster’ assured the gathered Rotarians that the food was just like how food used to taste.

“Girvan Rotarians would like to thank the staff at Age Concern for all the good work they do, we are now even more convinced it is a very valuable community service.”

Age Concern serves a three course lunch on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday where £5 is collected. The Charity opens on a Tuesday and Thursday to offer tea, coffee, soup and sandwiches.

More recently David Gilmartin has been organising walk and talk events in aid of Age Concern which offers a three course lunch on the days the walks take place.
