A MAN admitted to getting behind the wheel whilst being nearly five times the drink driving limit.

Kevin Blades, of Harbour Road Troon, was at both Kennedy Road and Harbour Drive in Troon on August 27 when his breath was 107mg, exceeding the limit of 22mg after consuming so much alcohol.

He pleaded guilty to three charges of drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without the consent of the vehicles owner.

He appeared before Sheriff Mhari McTaggart at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute Fiscal, Lorri Pidgeon, explained: “It was around nine o’clock in the evening when the accused returned home, heavy under the influence of alcohol.

“At 12:20am, the police attended an accident which was suspected to be related to drink driving. “The officers observed two stationary vehicles – the accused had collided with a parked vehicle.

“No persons were seen in the cars and the accused was traced to his address in Troon where he freely admitted to driving the car whilst under the influence of alcohol.

“He failed a breath test and was taken to Ayr Police Office, where he was cautioned and charged.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Ms Fowler, said: “Mr Blades accepts all responsibility for what he has done.

“He is still living with his parents and is making repayments for the damage that he made to his parent’s car.

“He is a man of limited convictions and he recognises that he has issues with drink.

“He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.”

Sheriff McTaggart addressed Blades.

She said: “On charge one, you will be disqualified from driving for 16 months.

“In addition, your licence will be endorsed for all three charges and you will perform 120 hours of unpaid work to be completed within 12 months.”
