AN ARMY reunion is to take place at Prestwick Bowling Club at the end of the month.

There will be attendees from Dubai, Canada, New Zealand and organisers have set up a memorable event to mark the occasion.

Representatives of the club appeared before South Ayrshire Council licensing board to allow the club to be opened until 1am.

Ian Smith of the club explained said: "We don't make a habit for asking for extended hours but we are having a reunion at the club with friends from the German Regiment.

"We have people coming from all over the world and would like to open until 1am. Our guests will be staying in the Ayr and Prestwick area.

"They will be using the restaurants and other businesses in our towns and I am sure this will be of great benefit for them."

Catrina Andrew Licensing Standards Officer said: "The maximum capacity of the premises is 92 people and they currently enjoy a terminal hour on a Saturday of midnight.

"Following discussions with a representative of the club, I am advised that there will be no under 18’s at this event which is a reunion for members of the disbanded 38 Squadron and the evening will consist of a buffet, a small disco and an opportunity to catch up with old comrades.

"I understand that the reason for the later terminal hour is due to there being attendees from Dubai, Canada and New Zealand and the organisers therefore want to make the event a memorable one and therefore permit a later terminal hour than usual.

"On the basis that I am not aware of any complaints in relation to these premises and that I believe from the information provided that it meets the criteria for this type of application.

"I have no objections to the grant of this Occasional Licence."

The club which sits on Midton Road will host their function on Saturday, September 30.
