FURY’S in Ayr will open later during the Scottish Airshow and the Ayr Gold Cup.

An application was made to South Ayrshire Council’s Licensing Board to request the nightclub can remain open until 3.30am on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3.

This will allow those attending the Scottish International Airshow to remain in the town when the event, which has been described as an ‘event of local or significance’, finishes.

Catrina Andrew, Licensing Standards Officer, said: “I am aware that premises in Ayr Town Centre area have previously enjoyed extended hours for this event and this year the applicant intends to take advantage of the anticipated additional crowds to the area which were obvious in previous years.

“As this has become an annual event and one which involves a large amount of planning and participants and which will bring many visitors to Ayr I am satisfied it is an event of Local or National significance.”

Fury’s will open later until 3.30am on Thursday, September 21, Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23.

Ms Andrew explained: “I am aware that premises in Ayr Town Centre area have traditionally enjoyed extended hours for this event and the applicant intends to take advantage of the anticipated additional crowds to the area for the racing festival beginning on the Thursday, with ladies day on the Friday and the Gold Cup on the Saturday.

“As this is an annual event on the racing calendar and one which will bring many visitors to Ayr I am satisfied it is an event of local or national significance.”

An application had also been made to open later this Sunday, September 27 as it is a bank holiday, the following day, in England and Wales but this was rejected.

Cllr Lee Lyons, said: “I know there will be many people who work for national companies who will be enjoying this bank holiday and not the Scottish one.”

But the proposal was rejected by the licensing board.
