THIS summer’s packed lunch scheme in Glendoune has been branded a success by organisers and supporters of the project.

The Glendoune Association have been running the programme in South Carrick and have been supported by the Milestone Christian Fellowship.

Mary Morland, who helps run the club, addressed the Girvan Town Team to update them on the progress the team had been making.

She explained: “Charlene and I give the kids their lunches and play games with them.

“Next week is the last week of the packed lunches.

“The way we run the club, no one can tell who is who, so there is no stigma attached.”

Roddy Macdonald, Coordinator of the Girvan Town Team, said: “The quality of the lunches is really quite amazing.

“The Milestone network has been a great support mechanism.

“The work has been just amazing and the kids are getting fed.”

Breakfast clubs have been launched in South Ayrshire and allow all children the chance to have a meal regardless of their back ground.

Councillor Alec Clark said: “Breakfast clubs are funded by the council and have been a great success.

“There is no stigma attached and the children have the opportunity to make friends.

“Before this was introduced there were children who had not eaten a meal and were finding it hard to concentrate in classes.

“Now they are able to achieve and sustain good grades.

“I would like to thank the lady from Prestwick who raised the issue with the pubic processes panel and told us about this issue.”

So far children from Girvan and South Carrick and North Ayr have benefited from the pack lunches scheme throughout the school holidays.

The Glendoune Association host a sports hub every Friday at the Muga from 2pm until 3pm delivering free sports and activities.

Packed lunched are provided to all those who attend the sports hub.
