A DAD called his son a p***k and accused him of 'ruining their holiday' at Craig Tara.

The man who cannot be named for legal reasons admitted banging on the door of the caravan he and his family were staying in at the holiday park in July.

The 52-year-old pushed his partner on the head causing her glasses to fall to the floor. He appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute Fiscal Cath Whyte explained how the couple had been together for 23 years and have five children.

Ms Whyte explained: "They were on a break at Craig Tara with four of their children, aged three to 18.

"The family had been watching TV in the lounge when an argument started between the man and his 13-year-old [son].

"They went back to the caravan but the son did not want to go to the entertainment show later that night. His mother stood up for him and the man called him a p***k and said he had ruined the holiday.

"He thought his partner was taking the child's side. He pushed her and her glasses fell off her face. She picked up her glasses, went to the swing park and told a member of staff.

"Police were called and attended the holiday park. He said that his partner had hit him first and he pushed her, saying that she was making a mountain out of a mole hill."

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Gregor Forbes, said: "There had been a volume of alcohol taken that night and my client is taking action to address that. His partner wants to reconcile."

Addressing the dock, Sheriff Cunninghame, said: "The court takes into account the fact you pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

"I will defer sentence for six months for you to be of good behaviour and to allow you to continue to engage voluntarily with the services you have already engaged with.

"Bail will be revoked so you can reconcile with your partner if she wishes."
