QUEENS Court and Newmarket Street could become Ayr’s very own Ashton Lane and Byres Road.

That’s the dream plan being put forward as part of the regeneration of the town.

FreshAyr has been an organisation since March 2016 and has organised a variety of pop up events in the town in a bid to allow local artists to perform and to create a cultural diversity.

Their aim has been to establish a permanent facility for pop up events and now those behind the initiative are delighted to have a home in Queens Court.

They want to create Ayr’s very own Ashton Lane in Queens Court - with Newmarket Street alongside acting as a Byres Road for the town.

It is hoped FreshAyr will be up and running by July 12 and will allow artists, painters and anyone with a creative idea to get involved.

The team behind the project have taken over any empty venue at Queens Court which can be used as a gallery space, a concert venue or a recording studio.

They have also taken over the cafe and will be able to serve food and drink at their events.

Robert Singer, initiator and chairman of the voluntary organisation, has been inspired by projects in Dundee and hopes that FreshAyr will continue to be successful.

Robert said: “We want to become a permanent feature in the town and make this an ongoing project. I am delighted about how far we have come in just one year.

“We want to bring the town back to life again and make it an exciting place for people to come.

“We have become an organisation of people who have the same aspirations and interests.

“FreshAyr are working for the people of South Ayrshire and we want to give something back to the younger generations.

“With this venue, our aim is to create Ayr’s very own Ashton Lane and Byres Road.

“Hopefully by November we will be able to work alongside the Ayr Renaissance who are working to transform the former Clydesdale bank at the bottom of Ayr High Street.”
