RESIDENTS from Prestwick, Monkton and Symington are being encouraged to show their support for their local community groups by voting for their favourites this month.

The latest Prestwick and Villages decision day will be held on Saturday, June 17 at Monkton Primary School between 10am and noon.

The event is a new way to boost locals to get actively involved in decision making, known as Participatory Budgeting.

On the recent success of community funding decision days in South Ayrshire, this latest venture in Prestwick, Monkton and Symington, will see 16 groups, pitch their ideas for community projects to it’s residents.

Up to £20,000 is available at the event and groups can be funded up to £1,000 for use in local projects and up to £3,000 for projects that benefit the wider community.

Voting is open to anyone who lives, works, volunteers or studies in the three areas, over the age of 10.

Key themes for the funding include, reducing social isolation and loneliness, addressing transport issues, access to services and keeping local people independent and well.
