OUT of date advertising banners along Racecourse Road and Racecourse View have been causing concern.

Those who live in the area are annoyed that old flyers and posters still seem to dominate the promenade which is a conservation area.

Frank Ward , of Fort, Seafield and Wallacetown community council raised the issue at a recent public meeting.

Because it is a conservation area many feel that the banners detract from the character of the area. Chairman Norman McLean advised that banners are allowed for 28 days.

Various events, including the Air Show, Rozelle Flower show, which could be saved, Tam Fest and Burns Fest are advertised along the Esplanade in the form of flyers, banners and boards.

But many feel once the celebration has ended the advertisement should be taken down. Former cllr Bill Grant suggested bringing the issue to the attention of John Hamilton in planning.

Michael Hitchon and other community council members conveyed they were shocked to see the yellow stripes on the County Building’s steps which is also a category A listed building in a conservation area.

Chairman Norman McLean said he would take a look and follow up both points with the Enforcement office of the Planning Department.
