He then went on a gambling spree between September and November using various websites where he spent £1,055.25 on the woman’s credit card.

The court heard how the complainer and the accused and had been in a relationship for 13 years which ended in August 2016. It was reported they remained on good terms.

Depute Fiscal, Stephen McLean, said: “The complainer has a disability and can only make it out of the house on limited occasions.

“She relies on other people including the accused to help her lift money and get shopping. Wilson had been helping the woman out and had been building her trust.

“She allowed him to take her bank card and gave him her pin number. He would go an get money for her which included a small fee for his petrol.

“She did not notice any issues until September 2016 when she noticed she did not have the same amount of money in her bank account that she thought she had.

“Wilson attended her home address and showed her a betting website. He said that he could not fund it on his own bank card and needed hers to withdraw money.

“The woman was furious and instructed him to remove her details. The money in the complainer’s account was less than she had been expecting. She received letters from companies and became more suspicious.

“She contacted her bank who confirmed the accused had continued to use the money from her card on a number of gambling websites.”

“The complainer contacted Wilson through text message. He said he would not use these websites again.”
Defence solicitor, Mandy Stewart, said: “I have a letter from the complainer which confirms Mr Wilson has paid back £1100 to her.

“They do appear to be on good terms and she seems to have forgiven him. Mr Wilson foolishly got himself into gambling. He is extremely mortified for what he has done.

“He still owes just over £300 and can pay £20 per week.”
Addressing the dock, Sheriff Mactaggart, said: “This was a breach of trust. I do not think I need to stress this is the view by the court.

“You committed a crime which could easily send you into prison but you have helped prevent this by paying her back.”
