Barassie Train Station is to receive a replacement shelter as part of the ScotRail Alliance’s commitment to providing "great" station facilities.
Five other train stations throughout Ayrshire are also part of the programme for replacement shelters, including: Dalry, Ardrossan Harbour, Fairlie, Glengarnock and Largs.
Better roofs and plastic sidings mean these new shelters offer greater visibility of train services arriving and departing, while providing protection from the weather.
The ScotRail Alliance’s customer experience director, Jacqueline Taggart, said: “Scotland’s weather is unpredictable.
"This week, we’ve gone from sunny conditions to snow in the space of a few hours.
"We want to provide robust shelters for people to use, especially at stations where there’s no protection from station buildings for customers waiting for their trains.
“This programme of renewals and refurbishments is part of our commitment to providing good facilities around stations to make our customers’ experiences of travelling with us as good as it can be."
