CULZEAN Castle and Burns Birthplace Museum have been voted as two of the leading visitor attractions in the UK.

The heritage centres have made the Association for Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) list with Culzean Castle and Country Park ranked 133 out of 241 sites.

Burns Birthplace Museum came 157th. The ALVA said it saw an increase in 15.6 per cent for all its Scottish sites.

Culzean is renowned for its rugged coastline, woods, beaches, secret follies, play park and a cliff-top castle and makes a fantastic day out.

Visitors can find out about the glorious 260 hectare estate which was once the playground of David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis a man who was keen to impress with his wealth and status.

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum offers a truly unique encounter with Scotland’s favourite bard.

The museum offers a self-guided space where visitors are free to explore the work, life and legacy of Burns, with interactive games and quizzes for all age levels.

Just around the corner is Burns Cottage, the Auld Kirk and of Course the Brig O'Doon. Both attractions make a great day out for strangers and locals alike.
