BUDDING young journalists at Holmston Primary School impressed the Ayr Advertiser Series with their fantastic reporting skills.

This month, primary four have been learning about the disaster of The Titanic which collided with an iceberg on Sunday, April 14, 1912 and sunk to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean in the early hours the following morning.

Their teacher Mrs Hunter, invited our reporter into class to have a look at their work which included reports on the tragedy.

The children had already learned the basic structure of a news article but were given some pointers to make them even better.

Sofiye McCrory wrote: "Titanic has struck an iceberg and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean."

Leah Curragh added: "Only 706 people have survived and 1,517 have been killed."

Ben Stafford continued: "It is believed that the captain missed six radio calls for the iceberg."

Harey Boyle explained: "At 11.40pm the crew spotted an iceberg ahead. It took two hours and forty minutes for the huge ship to sink. The Carpathia saw rockets the Titanic had set off and came to help but she was four hours away."

Dylan said: "The great Titanic split in tow on the first hour."
Poppy Watson concluded: "Those who survived are on the Carpathia with warm blankets, clothing and food. They are now on their way to New York."

They then asked our reporter some challenging questions about life as a journalist.
