A VAN has crashed into a bus stop near Sainsbury's in Prestwick.
Police have confirmed they are investigating claims that the driver may have taken ill at the wheel.
The incident happened at 2.05pm this afternoon on Ayr Road, Prestwick. One man has been taken to hospital and it is not yet clear what his injuries are.
Eye witnesses have described the bus shelter as 'completely demolished' and surrounded by police cars an ambulances.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland, said: "Police were called around 2.05pm on Tuesday, March 21, to a report of a van crashed into a bus stop in Ayr Road, Prestwick.
"An ambulance attended and the man has been taken to hospital. One line of enquiry is that the driver of the van may have taken ill at the wheel however police enquiries are continuing.
"Officers are appealing for any witnesses to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irvine through 101."
