OVER the past few years, the water level in and around the Fullarton Woods in Troon has been on the rise.

This has led to the lower areas of the woodland becoming inaccessible due to the water being deep and water-logged.

As a result, children and adults cannot visit these parts of the woods and dogs are regularly swimming in mud and water.

Some parts of the woodland did not dry out last summer because of these issues.

Due to this, the life of the trees and plants are in danger of dying.

The Friends of Fullarton charity (FoF) is progressing with a short-term solution to the high water levels by clearing the accumulated sediment from the stream that flows from the woods towards Dundonald Road.

CCL of Troon has enabled machinery to be hired and now FoF are just waiting for the necessary permits to be approved before the work can be completed, which will hopefully be by the end of April.

Crawford Young of FoF, said: “CCL’s generous donation will prevent the woodland drowning.

“However, this is only a sticking plaster for a bigger problem. Friend of Fullarton, South Ayrshire Council and other stakeholders are going to continue to work hard to come up with a longer term answer to make Troon proud.”
