A MAN has died following an accident during construction at Kilgallioch wind farm near Barrhill.
The 37-year-old contractor was working at the the site at 6.45pm last night.has died following an accident during construction at ScottishPower's 239MW Kilgallioch wind farm in southwest Scotland.
Police Scotland were called to the project site near Barrhill at 18.45 on Wednesday, 15 March. Emergency services also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokeswoman said the site has been closed and that inquiries into the incident are at an early stage.
The Health and Safety Executive has been notified and a report will be filed with the procurator fiscal, she added.
The contractor fell inside a turbine tower, it is understood.
A ScottishPower Renewables spokesperson said: "SPR can confirm the fatality of a 37-year-old man working for a contractor at Kilgallioch wind farm in South Ayrshire.
"A full investigation is now under way by the police and the HSE. SPR will support and co-operate fully with these investigations. Our thoughts are with the family of the technician involved in the incident.”
Spanish manufacturer Gamesa is supplying a mix of G97 and G114 turbines at the site.
