FIRE fighters undertook rescue procedures after reports of people being trapping in a burning building in Ayr.

Four fire engines from Ayr and Maybole, responded to a fire in Mill Street on Thursday, March 9, where the crews were met by a well-developed fire on the ground floor of a three story building.

Station Manager, Derek Davidson, said: “Initial actions taken by the Incident Commander was to commit four breathing apparatus wearers with hose reel jets fight the fire and undertake search and rescue procedures as reports received indicated that there were persons trapped within the burning building.”

He added: “The resources were increased to eight breathing apparatus wearers and four hose reel jets to allow the first and second floor to be systematically searched and confirmed clear of occupants while initial teams successfully extinguished the fire. 

"Approximately 30 minutes into the incident, all persons were accounted for and the blaze was under control.”

The incident is under joint investigation by Police Scotland and Fire & Rescue.
