A THREE day a week bus service will be on its way to Barr after approvals from South Ayrshire Council.

Plans were given the nod last week after proposals of a three day service from Barr to Girvan which would be supported by South Ayrshire

Community Transport and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
South Ayrshire Community Transport is working with SPT, North Carrick Community Benefit Company and Barr Community Council to successfully secure £200,000 from LEADER to purchase three new vehicles as part of the Rural Connect project.

It is thought the cost of this project will mostly go towards the purchase of the vehicles.

It is hoped the service will provide employment for a minimum of two part-time drivers as well as boosting employment chances of those living in Barr to travel to Girvan.

South Ayrshire Community Transport then at the council meeting last week requested temporary cashflow support from the council of £86,000. It is expected that this would be paid back to the council and would take four months.

Councillor Robin Reid was pleased with the plans.
He said: "Very happy to make this report.

"It is a very worthwhile project and hope to get it going as soon as possible."

Councillor John McDowell echoed the thoughts of his fellow colleague.
He said: "Very much welcome this report.
"Congrats to all involved putting this together. It will provide a three day a week service from Barr to Girvan. It will help access to the job market and social activities."

South Ayrshire Council approved the project with no complication. The money borrowed from the council will be repaid into the 2017/18 budget.
