A 70-year-old woman is appealing for information to try and trace her half brother who was adopted in Ayr in 1950.

Etta Mair, whose maiden name is Hamilton, was just three years old when James Hamilton was adopted but had no idea that he existed until 1999.

James was born on December 27, 1949 and was taken away from his family the following month. He would now be 67.

Speaking about the situation Etta said: "It wasn't until my mother died almost 20 years that I found two letters about him.

"He was born in Kilwinning and adopted from Ayr. My mother was to go to Ayr. Since I found out I have tried over the years to find him but have had no success.

"It has been hard to I have had to forget about it. It was not until I went out for lunch with my grand daughter last week that I started to think about it again. There are no photos."

Etta's grand daughter Rachel posted an appeal to try and help find James. Anyone with any information can get in touch with Etta through the Ayr Advertiser at editorial@ayradvertiser.co.uk or visit our facebook page.
