TWO new houses are to be built north of Annbank in-between three bungalows which could 'destroy' the character of the village.

Planning permission was previously granted 18 months ago but the applicant has had some trouble getting electricity sorted.

It is the applicant's intention to continue with the building which will be situated between Glenview and Eastburn at junction B742.

The issue was addressed at a planning meeting at South Ayrshire Council and concerns were raised on behalf of the objectors.

Cllr Brian Connelly, who represented the objectors, said: "I do not believe it conforms to the character of the village or the houses and removes all privacy.

"It will spoil the beautiful view and change the landscape. At the moment this is a really popular venue with anglers, bird watchers and walkers. We do not want to be woken up with more bin men.

"There will be increased traffic on the B744 but there is no room for parking or to reverse. It will be like a goldfish bowl. There are flood risks which are not highlighted in the application."

The plan proposes two new houses to be built. There will be one bungalow to the north of the site and two to the south.

Cllr Ian Douglas said: "I did not like this the first time and I still do not like it. I don't like the road around the back the first time and I still don't like it.

"Could we ask the Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) if they have any problems with roads so near these properties?"

A spokesman for the ARA said that they had had concerns abut the roads but were now satisfied with it.

Cllr Ann Galbraith said: "If we don't like it we can through it out."

Chairman Peter Convery said: "You need to have a reason. We need to get legal advice."

It was pointed out that the panel would need to to be careful about throwing it out after they had previously agreed to give planning permission.

Cllr Galbraith continued: "I think it is disgraceful it was accepted in the first place."

Cllr Douglas said: "Is it not possible to ask the roads authority and the planners to discuss opportunities to loop around the cottage?"
Chairman Convery responded: "No I don't think we can."

Cllr Douglas replied: "Well what is new?"

Councillors reluctantly agreed to extend planning permission to build houses on the land between Glenview and Eastburn, just north of Annbank.
