SOUTH Ayrshire Councillors praised the ‘special relationship’ with President-elect Donald Trump and his commitment to Trump Turnberry.

The relationship which has benefitted the area in jobs and the stunning transformation of the prestigious club at Turnberry.

Mr. Trump, who will take office on January 20 in front of a global audience, taking over from President Barack Obama.

In 2014, Donald Trump’s global empire invested £250million transforming the Open Championship venue into a beautiful golf resort and once again proud championship golf course.

A vote took place on Thursday, December 15 with South Ayrshire Councillors unanimously agreeing to continue to support the President-elect’s influence in Carrick.

Cllr Brian Connolly said: “My prediction is that the Open Championship will be back in 2021/22.

"We have history with Presidents, as Dwight D. Eisenhower was a frequent visitor to Maybole.

“I make no comment on Trump’s political views.

"However, I look forward to continuing our relationship with the Trump organisation”.

Cllr Hywel Davies was rather facetious in his praise for his impact on the area.

He said: “ He has invested £250million and he will become the most powerful man in the world. However, south of Girvan, the town of Lendalfoot has a relationship with Russia.

“What a good place for Trump and Putin to meet. Maybe the Provost (Helen Moonie) should extend an invitation to both men.”
Cllr Peter Convery also extended his happiness for the Trump effect.

He said: “I am not as jealous because of Royal Troon, but one of the good things is the President-elect has to devolve himself from his businesses.

“Without the transformation, Turnberry could have fallen out of the Open pecking order. Trump Turnberry is wonderful for Carrick”.

It is however expected that once Trump becomes President Donald J. Trump he will hand over his empire to his children.
