ALLOWAY Primary School are still facing problems with people parking in the bus lane outside the school.

There also appear to be problems at Upper Crofts at the back of the building with cars blocking driveways, preventing residents from entering and existing their property.

The issue was raised again at an Alloway and Doonfoot community council meeting last week. Suggestions were made about running a road safety campaign and getting pupils at the school to join in.

Speaking at the meeting last week Donald Wilson said: "There are problems with parking in the bus layby and in the general area. I saw two BMWs in the bus space the other day and one person was in the car."

Inspector Jim Hendry said: "We have discussed the issues with this road with police officers. There were some speeding issues too. I don't know how we can change it. It is all about education.

"We did this [ran an educational campaign] which worked but it was only temporary."

It was pointed out that Alloway is not the only school in South Ayrshire or Scotland to face these issues but it is hard to address.

It has also been noted that the lollipop lady on the Loaning has to put up with some people parking on the pedestrian crossing. There is a dedicated red painted crossing patrol but there is no legal requirement for it to be left empty.

Cllr Bill Grant added: "There are some residents in Upper Crofts in the same situation."

Mr Wilson added: "They are parking outside people's driveways which means they cannot get to work in the morning."

It is hoped that a campaign will start to help address the situation but it is not yet clear what the solution is.
