AN Irvine-born oil worker turned novelist has released his latest book.

What the Frack? by Dennis McKay follows up from his debut release - ‘Drilling, Killing, Love, Drugs and Mud’ - and involves a village in England being turned upside down by the arrival of frackers.

Penned under the name ‘BD McKay’, Dennis gave up working on the rigs three years ago and hasn’t looked back since.

Formerly of Irvine, the author now lives in Dundonald and hopes those responsible for energy policies will read his books before they reach political office.

Dennis insists his thinking has been changed on the subject of oil having seen the harsh realities of the business up close and personal.

And he believes the planet could be heading for catastrophe if things don’t change soon.

Speaking to the Times, Dennis said: “I guess that what is interesting about me is that I’m a kind of poacher turned gamekeeper on this.

“We’re quite happily cruising towards a cliff. We need to decommission the existing hydrocarbon infrastructure in an orderly fashion and build a sustainable future for the 21st Century.

“I don’t see any urgency from politicians on either side of the Atlantic.”

Dennis previously wrote scripts but went into engineering training before ending up on the rigs.

He added: “The appeal of writing novels was simple – I can control the entire creative process, from start to finish. I have an idea and can run with it, however fanciful.

“Like fracking on a village green in Hampshire instead of the wilds of Lancashire or Yorkshire. Not that that would ever happen – too many Tory voters might get upset!”

What The Frack? is available as a paperback at all bookshops, on Amazon and on Kindle.

The book is distributed via Lightning Source and can be ordered through any bookstore around the world.
