POLICE and firefighters had to rescue a woman who had fallen into Dunure Harbour.

Firefighters from Maybole arrived at the scene to help two police officers helping to keep the woman afloat.

The incident happened on Thursday, December 1 just after 1am. It is not known how the woman ended up in the water.

Station Manager Derek Davidson said “When fire crews arrived they immediately secured the female with a line to stabilise her and working alongside officers from Police Scotland attempted to move the casualty up the harbour wall gangway.”

Mr Davidson added “A rescue helicopter and coastguard also arrived at the scene and the casualty was successfully winched up by the helicopter out of the harbour and removed to hospital for treatment. At the time she was removed from the water she appeared to be unresponsive however latest information suggests she is now in a stable condition.”

The two Police Officers who were involved were themselves treated for hypothermia.
