THE future of Belleisle House Hotel is still uncertain after work on the building ceased.

But construction workers have not been seen on the property for months leaving members of the public confused and concerned about what lies in store for the property.

Belleisle House, which had been in Council ownership since 1926, was sold together with the South Lodge to Campbell Inns in 2012.

The new owners planned to create one of Scotland’s top luxury hotels – the new Belleisle Mansion Hotel and Spa.

The first phase of the extensive development work being taken forward by the Campbell Inns will focussed on the renovation of the original main building to create a new reception and lounge, two new restaurants and bar, 15 guest suites and the new state-of the art spa.

These facilities, which were to be complemented by the use of a marquee, were expected to be open to the public by summer 2014. But the house is still incomplete.

Speaking at a public meeting at Ayr Town Hall, chairman of the Fort Seafield and Wallacetown, Norman McLean, said: “The community council are concerned about the lack of progress on Belleisle from the public’s point of view.”

Cllr Bill Grant responded: “This is a long dark shadow cast over the Belleisle estate.”

He was asked if the House would be taken over by the council again if the work was not completed.

Cllr Grant responded: “It is not as clear cut as that. If nothing happens with the refurbishing, it may revert back to that.”

He also pointed out the positive features in the park including the new conservatory which is hosting a number of nights coming up to Christmas as well as the new playpark. Community councillors hope there will be a resolution soon.
