NEW affordable housing is coming to Troon following an approval at a South Ayrshire Council meeting.

The decision came at the Regulatory Panel (Planning) meeting on Thursday where the Stewart Milne homes in Troon were approved following a debate among councillors.

The affordable housing site planned is bounded to the east by the spine road, Commonwealth Drive, which will when completed, run through the whole site from the B746 to the A759; to the north by the Bellway homes housing site and to the west by the Meadowgreen Estate.

The southern and western boundaries of the application site are by the Barassie Burn which created concern amongst councillors.

There were no representation at the meeting from either Stewart Milne or any objections. Ayrshire Roads Alliance also gave no objection the planned affordable housing.

Councillor Ian Douglas expressed his happiness at the new project.
He said: "I offer no objection, however, is there any danger of flooding from the Barassie Burn?"

Shirely Curran, planning officer for South Ayrshire Council assured the councillors that any flooding issues were dealt with and there is a drainage infrastructure in place at the site of the new housing.

Councillor Hugh Hunter of Prestwick said: "I am impressed with this application. It is a step forward, really nice development and I look forward to seeing it."

Councillor William J. Grant also praised the fact the site had affordable housing.

He said: "There is much needed affordable housing in Scotland.
"The way the site is planned it all looks fine."

Councillor Sandra Goldie also praised the development plan.

She said: "Couldn't agree more. This is a great improvement than what we have seen in the past."

Councillor Peter Convery who was chairing the meeting then approved the development. There was no confirmation on the timeline of the construction of the new houses.
