THE Christmas celebration happens all over South Ayrshire this weekend as Troon, Prestwick and Ayr get ready to switch on their lights.

Troon's fantastic Wintertainment is making a return this Sunday.

Ayr Advertiser:

The Parade through the town starts in Templehill at 12.30pm led by the World Champions, 1st Troon BB Pipe Band.

This Parade also gives many local organisations the opportunity to join us as well as the young folk the chance to see Mr. & Mrs. Claus on the back of the float.

Sum Wumin Drumin are back by popular demand, giving their unique touch to rhythm.

Many events will take place in Troon along with fairground attractions and 'Owl Magic'.

There will be events right up until 4:30pm when Beacon will be lit in Church Street, while the new Christmas lights will be switched on at 4pm.

Troon Community Council Vice-chairman Dougie Graham expressed his delight at the presence of 1st Troon BB Pipe Band.

He said: "They are the World Champions and to have them here is fantastic.

"They deserve all the credit, to be world champions at that age is just brilliant, and it is time Troon gave them superb recognition.

"I really enjoy the Wintertainment, great for the kids and the community."

MEANWHILE, PRESTWICK is gearing itself up for its Christmas lights bonanza again this year.

The fantastic lights switch on will start off at 1pm on the main stage when former West FM breakfast show DJ Colin McArdle will open the event to all. Meanwhile, on the Community stage the Kingcase Primary School will get things going at 1:35pm

On the main stage at 2pm the amazing Ayrshire Infinity Choir will delight audiences.

On the Community stage Glenburn Primary will have their chance to sing their hearts out and thrill the audience with their outstanding singing talent.

Also, great fun for the kids as there will be a parade leading from Bellevue Road to Prestwick Cross where the kids will have to look out for Santa Claus in his Fire Engine.

The lights will switch on at 4:30pm as the Christmas spirit finally hits Prestwick.

IN AYR, Stars from the worlds of music and sport will be joining forces to add sparkle to the annual Christmas lights switch-on in Ayr.

Ayr Advertiser:

Thousands of people are expected to gather for the South Ayrshire Council festive favourite, which this year takes place on High Street, Ayr on Sunday.

Gareth Gates and Michelle Heaton (Liberty X) will be joined by local hero, Paralympian Robyn Love, who fresh from Rio 2016, will be joining the celebrations as part of a programme of events being organised for the big day.

Ayr Advertiser:

Councillor Bill Grant, South Ayrshire Council's portfolio holder for economic development, tourism & leisure, said he was looking forward to starting the countdown to Christmas.

He said: "The big switch-on is an event that's popular with young and old and we're hoping for a great turnout on the night.

"We've brought together a great line-up this year with an inspirational local hero sharing the stage with two singers that I'm sure will get the crowd in high spirits with some familiar songs that will really help to set the scene.
