AYR Grammar Primary have had their moving date into the new Ayr Academy building approved by South Ayrshire Council.

In April 2016, South Ayrshire Council considered and approved the proposal document regarding the relocation of Ayr Grammar Primary School and establishment of a new Early Learning and Childcare provision.

The hope is that the new Early Years building will be constructed by 2019.

The move was welcomed by councillors at the Leadership Panel meeting.
Cllr Bill Grant of Ayr West said: “I welcome the report.

“The Grammar school has been an issue and I welcome this resolution.

“Consultations have been very positive so far, so it will be good to see the progress of this report.”

Cllr Rita Miller of Ayr North said: “I can only echo Cllr Grant’s statement.

“It is very heartening to find a solution to the Ayr Grammar Primary School situation.

“I am very pleased there will be a nursery in the new plans. I am sure this will be a fantastic move.”

Chair of the meeting Cllr Bill McIntosh called the move an “exciting prospect” as Ayr Academy moves further forward to becoming a super-school.
The schools revenue budget will however require to be increased by £227,025 due mainly to an increase in property and facilities management costs.

The upgrade and modernisation of the current Ayr Academy building is estimated at £11.6million. The staff at Ayr Grammar Primary School will transfer to the Ayr Academy building when the modernisation is complete.
