RESIDENTS of Alloway are up in arms as drivers are continuing to park in the bus space outside the school causing delays and traffic jams.

Parking arrangements seem to have been causing issues for parents, children and locals for some time which makes driving past the school on Doonholm road problematic.

Parents can also be found parking on the Loaning, near the lollipop crossing as well as on the various side streets.

Concerns were raised at the Alloway and Doonfoot community council last week about the lack of police patrols which could help prevent this.

Speaking at the public meeting Donald Wilson said: "Parking is a problem at Alloway. You can always see parents park in the bus spaces outside the school which means the buses cannot get in.

"I always see drivers speeding on the Loaning. I fear there is not regular contact between Alloway or Doonfoot Primary schools and the community policeman. If there were that could help.

"The community council want a police contact for the two schools and for them to attend on a daily basis."

Councillors say that their number one priority is the safety of the children getting to and from school. Some feel that parents should be forced to park further down the Loaning.

Last Friday, November 4 our photographer went to Alloway Primary School to observe the situation. Two police officers were on patrol and were monitoring the situation just before the school closed at 3pm.

It is hoped that an increased police presence in the area will help tackle this problem.
