YOUNGSTERS who returned to school this week are without a wendy house which went up in flames.

But they could have been left without a school to go back to, according to a fire rescue boss who suggested it may have been set deliberately.
The wendy house went on fire at Alloway Primary last Tuesday night. It sits close to the main building itself.

Fire engines were called to the school after 9pm following hearing reports of a fire on the school grounds, adding that it was fortunate the school was still off for the summer holidays.

Local Station Manager Derek Davidson said “The structure which was involved was completely destroyed by fire despite best efforts of the crews attending. Police Scotland were requested to attend due to the possibility of wilful fire raising.

Mr Davidson added “Unfortunately it means the school has lost a valuable commodity which was well used by the children.

“More concerning for me is the fact that there is most likely foul play involved which could have resulted in a much more severe incident should there have been fire spread to main buildings within the area.

“I would urge anyone who may have noted suspicious activity in and around the area to contact Police Scotland on 101 and provide them with any information they may have.”
