A post-mortem is to be carried out following the tragic death of a man, at an accident on Troon's South Beach, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 44-year-old, has been named locally as Geordie Qua, and is believed to have fallen in the sea off Troon South Beach at around 4.30am on Wednesday, June 20.

The man is still to be officially named by police who have said they are not treating the incident as suspicious.

It is understood, the emergency services were alerted by a local resident after hearing a young girls screams at the time the incident took place.

A Police Scotland statement said: “We can confirm that a 44-year-old man has died in Troon.

“Officers received a call at around 4.30am on Wednesday to report of a man who had fallen whilst on the beach.

“Emergency services attended the scene on South Beach, and the man was then taken to hospital. “A post-mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

“This has been a tragic accident and our thoughts go out to his family.”
