MORRISONS in Troon were treated to world class golfers in their store this week as the 145th Open Championships got underway at Royal Troon.

Store manager Billy Matthew, was leading the charge along with his staff in gaining photographs with the likes of world number one, Jason Day and Scottish golfing veteran Sam Torrance.

Billy was also delighted with the positivity The Open has brought. He said: “It has been great. We’ve had some strange requests like coffee makers, filter paper and cream for coffees which I’m sure the American golfers have missed but we in Morrisons are not accustomed to that.

“The Open has been fantastic, we have prepared greatly for it. We have redesigned the store internally to cater for fans and even the golfers coming in. We have promoted meal deals and decorated the store in a golf theme. It has been an incredible success and we are sad to see it go.”

Jason Day was also spotted wining and dining at LIDO as Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell grabbed a meal at Scott’s.

Niall Horan from One Direction was also in the town for return of golf’s premier competition to Troon posting a picture of the course on his Instagram account that sent 1D fans into a frenzy.

Emma tweeted: “Niall Horan being in Troon right this minute and me not being there is hurting my heart”.

There were also reports of A-listers George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Robbie Williams, Gerard Butler & Justin Bieber in Troon to attend the golf but these reports could not be confirmed.
