A DENTIST faces a hearing before the General Dental Council (GDC) in connection with allegations of malpractice at two locations in Troon.

Dragi Todorovic, will appear before the professional conduct committee in London to answer a catalogue of alleged failings at Meadowgreen Surgery, Deveron Road and Portland Street.

They took place between 2006 and 2014 while he was on a list of NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s practitioners whereby he provided NHS Dental Services at both surgeries.

He had previously been suspended for four months and was hauled up before the GDC, with the hearing taking place on November 16 last year, two weeks ahead of the suspension order ending.

In a written statement made to the committee, Mr Todorovic said: “I am very disappointed and angry with myself to have brought disrepute to my profession by breaching the GDC’s standards of honesty.

“I have come to realise the severity of the dishonesty charges and clinical failings made against me. Although found to be at the lower end of the scale,

I feel I have brought shame to the dental profession.”
Based on the evidence heard, it was deemed that Mr Todorovic’s fitness to practise remained impaired and consequently imposed a number of sanctions on him.

These included notifying the GDC promptly of any professional appointment he accepts and provide the contact details of his employer or any organisation for which he is contracted to provide dental services.

In addition, GDC would exchange information with his employer or any organisation for which he is contracted to provide dental services or supervisor referred to in these conditions.

Mr Todorovic has been working as a dentist in Germany under close supervision as part of a training course in specialist orthodontics and has not undertook general dentistry since July last year.

If he does return to the UK, he said that it would be to work in the area of orthodontics and not general dentistry, although this would not happen until after he had completed the three year training course that you started in Germany in October 2015.

But he will be returning to the latest disciplinary hearing which takes place this week and lists in detail the errors and incompetence surrounding his treatment of individual patients.

Among the allegations he will answer are failing to keep proper records of patients’ treatment and history, failing to advise patients on their treatment with regard to costs, benefits or any associated risks.

He is also alleged to have failed to carry out and/or record hard and/or soft tissue examinations and to conduct and/or record periodontal examinations.

Official documentation released last week states that ‘being a registered dentist and in light of the facts alleged, your fitness to practise is impaired by reason of your misconduct’.
