A WOMAN from Troon is getting prepared to climb Goat Fell to raise awareness for Fibromyalgia a debilitating disease.

Amanda Wainwright suffers from the condition which causes chronic pain, as well as depression, fatigue and various other ongoing issues.

On Tuesday, July 5 Amanda and her friend Kirsty Hendry will be joined by a team of 15 to raise money for the condition.

Commenting on the upcoming expedition Amanda said: "Fibromyalgia is on the increase. Women tend to suffer more than men and it is becoming more common in children which is disturbing.

"The condition can be related to trauma or it can be genetic but because I have suffered trauma and my brother also suffers so I can't be sure why I suffer.

"Kirsty is my little champion. She will finish the hike for me if I cannot complete it. I was diagnosed in December 2013 but I think I have the condition for 19 years.

"I thought it was my job that left me feeling like this. There is a lot of stigma behind Fibromyalgia because it is an unseen illness and people do not understand what they can't see."

The team are hoping to raise money to help the Fibro Friends United, a Scottish group dedicated to helping those who need it run by Alison McColl.

A large group of walkers will leave from the Lonsdale Public House in Troon, who are supporting the team, on July 5 to head for Ardrossan where they will get the ferry to Brodick.

They have a page on Face Book called, LONSDALE TO GOAT FELL charity walk. Amanda has also set up a final charity night on July 8 with four bands playing and a raffle/auction at the Lonsdale Public House.

Amanda concluded: "I am looking forward to it but also not looking forward to it because I am scared of the consequences and how I will feel afterwards. Loads of people in Troon suffer so I am doing this to raise awareness."
