PROTESTS opposing the potential closure of Malcolm Sargent House are planned this Sunday.

More than 200 people are expected to meet at Prestwick indoor bowling club from 10am onwards before the demonstration starts at 12.30am on June 26 which will go through Main Street, Station Road and Links Road before congregating outside Malcolm Sargent House grounds.

Over 10,000 people have signed the online petition and 2500 have signed the paper petition to keep the holiday home from closing.

Eileen Granger, MBE, has raised £400,000 for the charity which she has been a volunteer at for 11 years.

She has helped organise the protest on Sunday and said: "My son was diagnosed with cancer when he was 11 months old.

"When his treatment was finished we had a holiday at Malcolm Sargent House. The holiday home is a God send to families like mine.

"There are Homes from Home which allow families to stay near the hospital providing treatment but they are not the same thing.

"I started the boxing day dip 10 years ago and many families we have met though Malcolm Sargent House have taken part."

Those who want to keep the holiday home open have support from Provost Helen Moonie as well as MPPs.

The final decision will be made in the middle of July after a recommendation has been made to the Board of Trustees.
