PARTY goers at Elliot's in Prestwick will be able to enjoy a night out until 1.30am on Sundays.

That's not all - food lovers will be able to enjoy bar meals from 7am as well as live performances and dance facilities outside core licensed hours.

The owner of Elliot's Colin Blair also wanted to extend opening hours until 2.30am on Saturday nights and for outside drinking areas to be created outwith licensing hours but this was denied by the leadership panel.

Speaking to the panel on Wednesday, June 15 Elliots' owner Colin Blair, said: "We have a smoking area outside but prevent our customers from taking alcohol outside.

"We can have 75 people smoking outside at 1am and we want them outside for environmental reasons. It is a lovely space and I cannot see the difference between smoking outside and drinking outside.

"We are in Europe at the moment and I think it is important that customers should be able to enjoy a drink in a controlled environment."

Cllr Ian Douglas said: "I think it is hard to envisage this outside drinking area or smoking area."

Cllr Allan Dorans asked: "Do we have 1.30am licence in other Prestwick premises?"

He was was informed that a number of venues including the Atrium operate after 12am on a Sunday.

Cllr Peter Convery added: "I have got a great deal of respect for Buzzworks. But I am in a bit of a dichotomy and the fact is when people go out they get loaded up.

"When I was in business lots of ladies would drink vodka just to put on make up. The dichotomy for me is if they have got themselves drink before hand they could be turning up to these premises drunk.

"Perhaps I am looking at in in the wrong way."

Mr Blair responded: "It would be illegal for us to sell alcohol to people who are drunk. But there has been a social change and we can ignore it or take it in. One in three night clubs are shut in the UK."

But he was told by Chairwoman Ann Galbraith as that it was outwith the boards policy to tell alcohol outside after 10pm.

She concluded: "I hope you can be happy as you have got most of what you want."
