HERITAGE trails of historic sites of Ayr could become a key feature in the town.

Ayr Renaissance want to introduce talking benches at six sites around the town including the Auld Kirk, Louden Hall and the Seafront.

Recordings at these benches would highlight history at that part of the town from different centuries where people could go back in time as as far as the 15th and 16th century.

David Bell, Managing Director of Ayr Renaissance, said: "We want to people to start flowing back into the town and we want them to come here because there is something different for them to do rather than go to Silverburn or Braehead.

"We want people to visit Ayr for its markets, heritage and festivals."

The first Tam Fest ran last year for one day but this year they are hoping to turn the festival into a three day event.

Mr Bell continued: "Thanks to a young girl who came up with the idea, Tam Fest was a one day event which ran in the town. This year we want to make it bigger and better."

Tam Fest is gearing up to to feature live music and haunted trails and will take place later this year.
