CANDIDATES for community councils in Prestwick North, Crosshill, Straiton and Kirckmichael will not be split between sub-wards.

During elections these community councils are divided into smaller wards to ensure an even spread of representatives.

However, South Ayrshire Council's Leadership Panel agreed to suspend this division due to imbalance.

In Prestwick North, the Prestwick West Sub-ward received seven nominations for five vacancies, compared with just three nominations for 10 spaces in the other Central and East sub wards.

The Leadership Panel approved to suspend the sub-warding of Prestwick North, Crosshill, Straiton and Kirkmichael Community Councils from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2019.

Cllr Rita Miller said: "I support this and think it is necessary. The community council boundaries are in need of a refresh now and I am glad that we have planning in place."

Cllr Margaret Toner added: "We need to support the boundaries of the communities."
