DUNURE youth club has been nominated for a prestigious award.

The group's Seahorses Project caught the eye of the judging panel of the 'Time to Shine Arts and Creativity Award'.

The Seahorses Project was a partnership between the young people, a local artist, school and the Harbour Association, using traditional willow weaving to create two giant seahorse sculptures as a lasting visual legacy for the community.

The youth club caters for young people aged 8-18 living in the rural coastal villages of Dunure, Fisherton and surrounding farms and is part of the Place Partnership in South Ayrshire.

Alison Wales, Community Learning and Development Office with South Ayrshire Council said: “The youth club has significantly contributed to engaging young people in creative arts over quite some time. It is a vibrant hive of creativity where young people learn new skills, develop their interest in the Arts and in doing so, increase their confidence.”

Jennifer Gibson, 10, was one of the young people involved in the Seahorses Project:“I took part in the launch of the Seahorses at our harbour and presented a miniature seahorse to Culture Secretary, Fiona Hyslop MSP, as a memento of her visit here."

The Awards Dinner to announce and celebrate the achievements of the 31 finalists will be held on Thursday March 10 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.
