PLANS to finalise Housing Developments in Monkton have been approved by South Ayrshire Council Leadership Panel.

The decision was made at a meeting last Tuesday, February 16 and will see the progress of housing sites in Monkton, Coylton and Symington.

Councillors discussed the proposals and the various implications they may have.

Cllr Bill Grant, said: "I am concerned about the nearby commercial areas, the airport site as well as the residents of Newton. This could be worrying for all of them.

"It could also result in the re-routing of Heavy Goods Vehicles which could cause problems."

Cllr Rita Miller said: "I am wondering how this fits into the 10 year housing supply."

Members heard that Planning and Enterprise services were looking to develop plans that would allow more houses to be built within 10 years including Corton in South East Ayr.

A reported submitted to the panel recommended that Monkton housing development plans were withdrawn in order to prevent potential conflict with Prestwick Airport.

The councils planning and enterprise services have worked with the Airport to come to an arrangement that will prevent interference.
