TWENTY is plenty on Dundonald Main Street as a new speed limit will be put in place.

It aims to improve road safety, reduce traffic incidents and casualties. Local residents were asked for their opinions on the matter, but no objections were raised.

Proposals now include installing new speed bumps in the 20mph zone to remind people to drive with care.

Speaking to South Ayrshire Council at a Regulatory Panel Meeting, Councillor Hugh Hunter, said: “What communication is taking place with those members of the community who will be affected?

“I think it is important that those living within a reasonable distance have been made aware of the situation.”

Members of the panel were informed that consultation with the right people in the local community had been carried out even if it was no door to door knocking.

Cllr Hunter responded: “I think it is important to note that there will be an adverse reaction to the speed bumps. These are people who live on Main Street. This is going to worry them.”
Concerns were also raised on behalf of locals who may have to run someone to hospital in an emergency but would be delayed as a result.

Councillor Ann Galbraith said: “If you want people to drive at 20mph you need speed bumps there. The proposals were approved and a contractor is already in place for work to begin as soon as possible.”
