POLICE have told Troon residents complaining about speeding drivers that they may not be speeding at all.

An officer was responding to concerns from residents that drivers are breaking the speed limit on a regular basis in Titchfield Road and Logan Drive in Troon.

Inspector Alister Kelly said police patrols had been deployed to both areas but insisted that the average speed was less than 30mph.

He was speaking at the monthly meeting of Troon Community Council when he gave a report on police activity in the town during January but promised to continue to monitor the issue and, if needed, approach individual drivers.

Mr Kelly reported that they had received 230 calls and dealt with four assaults and eight disturbances.

There were also four break-ins, including one at the fish market.
There was one car stolen and five incidents involving vandalism while the Safer Shores project will be going ahead again later in the year.

It will build on the success of last year when Troon was invaded on several occasions by hordes of drunken teenagers.

Meanwhile, a supermarket has been hit by two-winged invaders which caused concerns as well as a few laughs.
A pair of swans have been converging on Morrisons Supermarket with police receiving calls on four occasions.

While it would seem they are looking for scraps of food, one community councillor said it may be the ‘deal of the week’ the swans are after.
