Staff from the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway donned traditional 18th century attire and paid a visit to Burns’ monument and Brig o’ Doon as part of the Alloway 1759 celebrations, which kick off this week to celebrate the birthday of Scotland’s best loved poet.

Running from this Wednesday until Burns Night on Monday January 25, Alloway 1759 is a special programme of activities and events set to take place around Burns Cottage and surrounding landmarks.

A highlight of the proceedings will be Burns Aflame, a unique Burns themed fire garden where flame-lined paths, fire-breathing flowers an' scorching sculptural trees combine to create an unforgettable trail o' light.

Alloway 1759 is part of Scotland’s Winter Festivals, a 21 strong event programme that runs across Scotland every year from St Andrew’s Day on November 30 to Burns Night on January 25.

The Alloway 1759 events are supported by South Ayrshire Council and also include the first-ever Robert Burns Humanitarian Award concert. There is still a chance to get tickets for the concert which takes place on Thursday 21 January at the Brig o’ Doon Hotel, Ayr.

Expect a fantastic evening of entertainment and suspense as the winner of the 2016 Robert Burns Humanitarian Award is revealed.

Burns Aflame has a choice of two shows (4.30pm-7:30pm) or (8:30pm-11:30pm).

Tickets for both of these events are on sale now from www.ayrgaiety.co.uk or 01292 288235. Make sure you don’t miss out.
