The theft left Troon bowls ace, Paul Foster MBE in a sweat just weeks before the start of the games as his prized bowls were pinched in the raid on July 7 - just two weeks before the event got under way.
The champion had been preparing with the specially made bowls in the months previous to the theft.
The bowling club changing rooms were ransacked and a quantity of alcohol, a bowling bag containing the bowls and other equipment were swiped.
The four-time Men’s Indoor Singles and Indoor Pairs champion, who won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, with his pairs partner Alex Marshall, was left seething.
The bowls were later recovered by cops and Foster was able to use them at the games.
Appearing at Ayr Sheriff Court last week, the 17 year old was handed a community pay back order of 80 hours unpaid work, to be completed within six month, as well as 12 months supervision.
