The Fire Reach course is part of a series of initiatives being delivered via the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Working with Young People strategy. The purpose is to provide training and development opportunities for young people principally through fire and rescue activities. The Fire Reach will seek to develop the core skills of young people such as self-confidence, team building, communication and problem solving. It will also promote a positive image of young people in the wider community. The kids taking part are between 13 to 15 years old from Ayr Academy. They will be involved in a variety of simulated scenarios that will include hose running, trauma techniques, road accident procedures, impact of hoax calls and many more.

The Kevock Choir is conducted by Graham Lovett and are recognised as one of Scotland"s leading large choirs. They are also known affectionately known as "The Tattoo Choir" because of their continued involvement with the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. This is the choirs 41st year. SUNDAY, MARCH 23 Loans Gala Committee hold their Easter Fun Day in the village Scout Hall, between 2pm and 4pm, when the fun includes the raffle of a beautiful hand-crafted Easter cake, a treasure hunt round the park for the children, a Find The Golden Egg game in the hall, coffee and home baking, a raffle, book stall, and many more attractions. The children are invited to bring along a hard boiled egg to decorate (the materials will be supplied) and there will be excellent prizes for the winners in each age group. Nearer the date, committee members will be calling into all homes in the village with full information on the event, and selling tickets which are priced at �1.50 per adult.

BARR tearoom opens again for business today with all types of home baking, tea and coffee available. All are welcome.

TROON Old Parish Church Easter Day service is at 10.30am conducted by Rev Alastair Symington assisted by Rev Erin Buckner with a short service of communion after the service. The womens guild are having their AGM in room three at 11.30am.

THE Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be holding their service in the Mossgiel Road Church, Ayr starting at 10am with classes for Priesthood (men), Relief Society (women), Young Men, Young Women and Primary for the children. All the usual Sunday school classes follow including the adult class which will commence its year-long study of the Book of Mormon. The family worship service will begin at 11.50am and be conducted by Bishop Gilardi. Visitors are always very welcome.

MAYBOLE Castle will be open to the public 2-4.30pm. Guided tour starts approx 2.30. Admission free.

TROON St Meddans Church will have an All Age Service with Communion on Easter Day at 10.30 am conducted by Rev David L Harper. The Church Choir and Praisemor will lead the praise. Coffee is served in Pentland Hall following morning worship. Also available at this time is the Traidcraft Stall which stocks a wide selection of fairly traded goods, gifts and foodstuffs. Well worth a look.

TUESDAY, MARCH 25 THE South Ayrshire Tenants Group are holding a meeting this morning and are looking for new members. The group liaise with the council on behalf of all council tenants and need as many tenants as possible to join and attend their meetings regularly. They need a strong, vibrant group so they can help tenants resolve their local issues with the council and other agencies in South Ayrshire. AYR Arts Guild will be hosting a Schubert concert tonight. Performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the event will take place in Ayr Town Hall for the final concert of this season"s Ayr Concert Series arranged by the guild and South Ayrshire Council. In an all-Schubert programme, Stephan Loges will conduct the orchestra in Symphonies No. 3 and No. 5, German Dances and Five Songs arranged by Webern to be sung by Olari Elts, bass-baritone. FRIDAY, MARCH 28 JAZZ fans are in for a rare treat at the Station Hotel from 8pm to 11pm following on from last year"s sell out appearance at Ayr Jazz Club, Quattro MacJazz makes a very welcome return. This great quartet consist of Forrie Cairns, ex Clyde Valley Stompers clarinetist, entertainer and banjoman Alastair McDonald, trumpeter Lennie Herd and a top class double bass player from Edinburgh in Roy Percy. This group received a standing ovation at last year"s appearance at the Club and this can only be another superb night for those who like New Orleans Jazz and Hot Gospel music. One of Scotland"s leading concert pianists, Graeme McNaught, is to be the soloist at the Ayrshire Symphony Orchestra"s Spring Concert at Ayr Town Hall at 7.30pm. Graeme combines a busy career on the concert platform both in Scotland and abroad with teaching at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

TUBA player Les Neish will hold a free brass workshop for players of all ages and standards in Dalmellington Band Hall from 10am to 2pm. All players and potential players are invited to attend or simply come and listen. MONDAY, MARCH 31 STRATHCLYDE Fire and Rescue is running a course at Dreghorn Fire Station today until April 4. The Fire Reach course is part of a series of initiatives being delivered via the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Working with Young People strategy. The purpose is to provide training and development opportunities for young people principally through fire and rescue activities. The Fire Reach will seek to develop the core skills of young people such as self-confidence, team building, communication and problem solving. It will also promote a positive image of young people in the wider community. The kids taking part are between 13 to 15 years old from Ayr Academy. They will be involved in a variety of simulated scenarios that will include hose running, trauma techniques, road accident procedures, impact of hoax calls and many more.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2 OPPORTUNITIES in Retirement Troon meet at 2pm in Portland Church Hall when retired head teacher Grant Young will give an illustrated talk about a journey he made from Barcelona to Paris by bicycle.
