AROUND 600 people enjoyed a spectacular day at the huge Jessica Appeal fundraising party on Sunday afternoon.

Little four-year-old Jessica Findlay was joined by the MacDonald Brothers to officially open the event at Eglington Park, just outside Irvine.

Although the total amount of money raised is still being counted it’s anticipated that a generous amount has been raised through the raffle, face painting, arm band sales embossed with Jessica’s Journey and a host of funfair events.

X-Factor Singer Craig, there with brother Brian, said: “It was a good day and everyone was there for the right reasons.

“It is good to have something like that to take your mind off was is happening. It really was a great day.”

Craigie resident Amy Whitfield, 18, also joined in the fun having a great day out with some friends. Speaking about the day she said: “It was really good, was really surprised by the turn out.

“And there was so much to do and it was great to see Rachel and Jessica out. It was unfortunate about the weather changing at the end when it started to rain because we got a bit wet but it had been good all throughout the day and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. It really was a good day we had such good fun - I hope it has helped the fundraiser.”

Members of the fire brigade and ambulance crew were out in force offering kids the chance to put the sirens on while people could also get the chance to have a 15 minute ride in a stretch limo - including the biggest bright pink hummer in the country - thanks to West Coast Limos.

Carrie McCalmont, who runs the limos with her husband Ian, said: “We are putting everything towards the Jessica Appeal. In total we raised £324 and we’re putting all that in, none of the boys have taken anything - it’s all for her.

“It was a good day, apart from the rain.

“We were a bit late arriving but I think it was definitely something when the giant pink limo arrived. We all had a good time.”

Cartoon fans were given the chance to have their picture taken with their favourite character with Dora the Explorer, Buzz Lightyear and Scooby Doo.

Those liking a bit of speed also got the chance to ride the daring magic carpet, reach for the stars with the bunjee trampoline or even have a go on the gentle tea cups ride.

Mum Rachel said: “It was a really good day, we haven’t counted the money yet but we’re hoping it will help. We don’t know how long we’ll have to be in America for with the operation. It was really good seeing all these people out.”

The day was sponsored by Heathfield’s S&S Services.
