Villagers rally round to help
By Roisin McGroarty
BIG-hearted Symington villagers have collected hundreds for the appeal.
The caring community has filled numerous charity tins and taken part in various raffles throughout the area in the hope of raising as much money as possible for Jessica Findlay.
Symington Post Office has raised hundreds alone for the appeal with raffles and collection boxes in store.
Postmistress Jan McGuffie explained: “There was a girl Caroline Fleming that works in Troon that knows my husband. She just came up and explained what is going on with Jessica.
“We just like to think that if this happened to someone up here that people would help out.
“A lot of the shops in Symington have got tins and been helping with raffles.”
Jan, 40, added: “We have done all right, the last figure we have is £256 though we raised £120 for guess the amount of sweeties, £150 in the raffle and we’re now on our third tin which holds roughly £100 so we’ve done quite well in the last four to five weeks.
“The customers and the people of Symington have been amazing. The raffle went really well, all the staff here and at other stops donated a lot.
“We even had customers handing in bottles of wine. I just wish we could do more. We could do with someone coming in with big money.”
