ALL the excitement in this much-hyped clash between Ayr and Raith was over virtually in the blink of an eye and on a rare glorious summer afternoon the beach would have been a better place to soak up the sun.

It was one of those days when you kept waiting for something exciting to happen, for someone to light the touchpaper and supply a rare moment of inspiration but went home ultimately disappointed.
