NEGOTIATIONS are still ongoing on the future of Ayr United fans’ favourite Andy McLaren with the veteran targetman looking for a better deal from the Somerset Park club, claiming he’s being asked to take a pay cut.
McLaren, who missed most of last season with a cruciate ligament injury told Sportscene this week he had not yet accepted an offer from the Honest Men for the coming season and admitted it’s possible he could be playing his football elsewhere.
McLaren told Sportscene on Monday: “The offer I have received is unacceptable and I am being asked to take a pay cut as I was injured last season and they are worried that might happen again. I would like to play at Ayr United as I feel I could be the best player in the Second Division but I have another couple of offers from other clubs and will have to weigh things up.”
Reid said of the striker: “We have still to talk more to Andy and a few issues are still to be discussed with him.”
